Memorial Paddle Parade

Open to all stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and canoes. It’s a parade (not a race). Starts 3pm from Cooks Shipyard jetty, Wivenhoe.

Parade Eligibility

  • The parade is open to kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards.
  • Buoyance aids / PFDs must be worn at all times and paddlers should ensure they have sufficient ability and experience on tidal waters to take part, ensuring they do not present a risk to themselves or others.
  • Participation is entirely at one’s own risk.
  • The Parade is not a race.

Start Times

The Parade is scheduled to begin 3pm from the Cooks Shipyard Jetty (near the Barrier). Times are subject to variation on the day.

Important information

Please be aware that the river may be very busy and certain large vessels such as Smacks have limited maneuverability and should be given plenty of space.

The Course

Beginning at the new Pontoon, proceed upriver towards Rowhedge Wharf sticking to the right-hand side of the channel. When you reach the viewing platform / tower, turn back to Port (left-hand turn), then proceed back to the finish at the Old Hard Hut.
