The Zac Brightmore
Memorial Paddle Parade

A paddle parade on a tidal course starting from Wivenhoe from 1300, venturing up towards Rowhedge Wharf and the Roman River and back again.

Parade Eligibility

  • The parade is open to kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards.
  • Buoyance aids / PFDs must be worn at all times and paddlers should ensure they have sufficient ability and experience on tidal waters to take part, ensuring they do not present a risk to themselves or others.
  • Participation is entirely at one’s own risk.
  • The Parade is not a race.

Start Times

The Parade will begin and end from the OLD Wivenhoe Sailing Club line at the Old Hard – a line across the river at the WSC Old Hut and Hard, approximately 300 yards upstream of the Barrier.
The same line will be used for the WODs at 1115, handicap dinghies at 1130 and gigs at 1145.

A staging area, consisting of the Wivenhoe-half of the river running between the town jetty and Rose & Crown pub, should be occupied prior to the start of the parade.

Please be aware that the river may be very busy and certain vessels such as Smacks have limited maneuverability and should be given space.

The Course

Beginning at the Old Hard Hut, proceed upriver to Rowhedge Wharf sticking to the right-hand side of the channel. When you reach the viewing platform / tower, turn back to Port (left-hand turn), then proceed back to the finish at the Old Hard Hut.
